Summer is coming, is your hair ready?

Ahh summer. That season where the hats come off and the sweaters go on vacation. This is the time when most of us are thinking about how to wear our hair out.

Did your hair spend this winter contently exposed to the furrocious weather?

Sadly, I must admit, mine did. That doesn't just mean dryer ends and frizzier curls. It means that one's hair is almost certonly experiencing MORE breakage. Before last year I had never worn my hair out this longgg. I don't know how forever-twist-out or wash n go naturals do it!

Even with all this my hair has still grown because I believe in moisturizing! I have met many naturals who do not understand that when you wear your hair out you must moisturize everyday at the least!

I am beginning to understand why people assume my hair is dry. They are often surprised at how "soft" my hair is. Its not a coincidence. It's called moisturizing. Because I have what others would call "high standards" when it comes to moisturizing (& other things) even when my hair is not (in my option) in tip-top shape its still "soft" to most people.

This is the bottom line. If you are wearing your hair this summer or anytime in the indefinite future:

You must moisturize your hair, at the least, once a day!! When I say "moisturize" I mean spray your hair than apply a moisturizer (& oil, shea butter, ect.) to your hair . Not a serum, a gel, or a curl "definer." Those are applied after if desired. This is something I do on average twice a day. More about what a moisturizer is later.. Hint: one of the main ingredients is water.

Don't be the person who...
  •  Sleeps at night without a head scarf only two wake up with dry hair.
  • Pulls out their hair in the morning without moisturizing because they're in a "rush."
  • Wonders at the end of the day why their hair is dry when their most used hair products have "curl defining" on the cover.
  • Sits very close to the air conditioning.... that is a recipe for dry-er hair!
Even when you are wearing two strand twists you need to moisturize every two days! Those ends will get dry. I am almost certon that the only hair style that does not require constant moisturizing is cornrows or flat twists with the ends tucked in. When the ends are exposed they need to be moisturized.

Make sure that you...

  • Deep condition regularly -experiment with different deep conditioning methods, find the types that work best for your hair.
  • Moisturize.
  • At least once a month give your hair a rest for a couple of days. Rest: meaning leave your hair in twists, braids, flat twists, & cornrows. Basically any protective style.

This summer resolve to make moisturizing your hair a priority. Because if you don't treat your hair right it will brake up with you. Literally.
